On the initiative of Philippe Miserez, Gérald Langel and Robert Martinolli, the Cenas sleep medicine centre was created in December 1989 in Vandœuvres, and became the first sleep recording centre in Geneva to be equipped with a modern polysomnography examination system.
In the mid-1990s, Cenas added a rental service for CPAP machines used to treat sleep apnoea disorders in order to provide a comprehensive analysis and treatment offer to its patients. It also gradually built its network of partner specialist physicians.
From 2001 onwards, all sleep medicine centres were required to obtain accreditation. This new legislation gave legitimacy to sleep medicine.
